Professor Mark Elgar from Zoology will be speaking to us about busting the myths of evolutionary psychology. Mark is an evolutionary biologist with a particular interest in sexual selection in a diverse range of animals and most recently has turned his attention to humans. He will be discussing his work on leader selection in athletes at the London Olympics and why it probably has nothing to do with our distant ancestors. As well as more generally about the kind of conclusions we can or can’t logically draw about humanity’s evolutionary instincts from today’s research.
