Lawrence Krauss is an internationally renowned theoretical physicist, editorialist, lecturer and radio commentator. His studies include the early universe, the nature of dark matter, general relativity and neutrino astrophysics, exploring questions ranging from the origin of the Universe to the origins of human culture and cognition.
In addition to his academic pedigree, he is the author of seven popular books including international bestseller The Physics of Star Trek, and the award winning Atom: an Oddessy from the Big Bang to Life on Earth… and Beyond. Krauss’ latest addition is Hiding in the Mirror: The Mysterious Allure of Extra Dimensions from Plato to String Theory and Beyond. His essays have been published in New York Times, LA Times, and the Wall Street Journal. Also, he is co-chair of the Board of Sponsors of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.
Krauss has been particularly active in issues of science and religion, leading the effort to defend the teaching of evolution in public schools, and protecting scientific integrity in government. His essay in the New York Times on Evolution and Intelligent Design in May 2005 helped refine the Catholic Church’s position on evolution. Recently, he led the call for a Presidential Debate on Science and Technology. Lawrence Krauss is a prominent atheist who has appeared alongside the likes of Richard Dawkins in documentaries, public forums and conferences.
The Secular Society, together with National Science Week and the Rationalist Society of Australia, are proud to be hosting a special lunch with Lawrence Krauss on campus. He will present on “Nonsense, Non-science and Science: From Government to Classroom” with plenty of time set aside for QNA.
